Monastic College Annual Exams

December 26, 2021

With great diligence, determination, and interest, the teachers and students of Palpung Sherabling Monastic College completed this year’s classes on several subjects.

From December 22 to 24, 2021, a three-day annual examination was conducted under the supervision of its khenpos, acharyas, and teachers, who are highly skilled in expounding the profound meaning of the main texts of Sutra and Tantra.

Students of all levels, from those in the beginners' class up to those in the twelfth-year class, sat for their respective written and oral exams on root texts, commentaries, and difficult points of several major subjects of the sutras and tantras. The exams included the subjects of epistemology, reasoning, and collected topics of logic; grammar texts, such as the Thirty Verses, the Guide to Signs, and the Orthographical Dictionary; the scriptures of the Thirty-Seven Practices of a Bodhisattva and the Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life; the major texts on madhyamika, prajnaparamita, vinaya, and abhidharma; the sacred scriptures of the Profound Inner Meaning, the Tantra of the Two Segments, and the Treatise of the Sublime Continuum; as well as the Compendium of Valid Cognition and its commentary.
