The First Graduation Ceremony of Palpung University of Buddhist Sciences

At 9:30 in the morning of July 7, 2022, Guru Vajradhara His Holiness the 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa and the special guests were escorted by Palpung Dönnyi Norbui Gatsal University of Buddhist Sciences' leaders to the monastery courtyard.

In attendance were the Chief Guest Honorable Penpa Tsering, Sikyong of the Central Tibetan Administration and Kalon of CTA's Religion and Culture and Health Departments; Special Guest Honorable Lobsang Jinpa, Secretary of Gaden Phodrang; Dr Anil Kumar Garg, Representative of Ayurveda Department Director, Government of Himachal Pradesh; Dr Vijay Chaudhary, Principal of Ayurvedic College Paprola; Chief Botanist of Ayurvedic Herbal Garden in Jogindernagar; secretaries of CTA's Religion and Culture, Education, and Health Departments; Tibetologist Josay Tashi Tsering; Director and Principal of Men-Tsee-Khang (Tibetan Medical and Astro-Science Institute); Chairman of Central Council of Tibetan Medicine; leaders and health workers of the local Tibetan settlement; and other distinguished guests.

The ceremony began with the chanting of auspicious verses, followed by a traditional offering of Tibetan tea and sweet rice and an explanation of the five excellent circumstances.After that, Guru Vajradhara gave a speech andawarded certificates to the first batch of graduates in Tibetan medicine and astrology. The Chief Guest then launched several books and presented prizes to the second batch of students of medicine, astrology, and Sanskrit grammar, who achieved best results in the annual examination.

Then, Central Council of Tibetan Medicine awarded Palpung Dönnyi Norbui Gatsal University of Buddhist Sciences with the certificate recognizing its bachelor of medicine college as an authentic Tibetan medicine college. The morning program was concluded with a progress report by the university's principal and a longevity offering to Guru Vajradhara by the graduates.

The afternoon part of the program began with presentations on Tibetan medicine, astrology, and Sanskrit grammar by the university's teachers, followed by speeches by the Chief Guest and other special guests about the value and special traits of traditional medical sciences and how their preservation and propagation can bring benefit to the society. At the end, the guests were presented with tokens of appreciation and the program concluded with a vote of thanks.

After that, the Chief Guest inaugurated the university's Tibetan Medicine and Astrology Museum, toured the medicine production facilities, the Tibetan medicine clinic, the wellness center, and the botanical garden, and planted several medicinal trees.

On the following day, Kyabje Chungpo Gyalton Rinpoche presided over the final part of the program at Monastic Primary School's assembly hall, which was attended by teachers and staff of several departments of the monastic seat. At the beginning, the first batch of graduates presented analyses, practical demonstrations, and discussions on Tibetan medicine, astrology, and Sanskrit grammar. The first graduation of the monastic seat's University of Buddhist Sciences was then auspiciously concluded with Gyalton Rinpoche's meaningful teaching and advice.
