The Three-Year Retreat Begins

November 16, 2022

On November 15, 2022, the 22nd day of the 9th Tibetan month that marked the Buddha's return from Tushita heaven, six khenpos and twenty-four monks entered the three-year retreat at Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat's retreat center of Naropa's tradition. Over the period of three years and three fortnights, the ninth batch of retreatants, which also includes monks from seven related monasteries in India, Nepal, Bhutan, and other places, will practice the Six Yogas of Naropa, Maitripa's Mahamudra instructions, as well as several Tantras that were transmitted by Lord Marpa. Moreover, they will meditate on the general stages of both the path of means and the path of liberation of the Dagpo Kagyu tradition and practice all the meditations, recitations, and mantra accumulations of numerous old and new Tantras. With joyous determination to practice diligently, they set up the retreat boundary and began the three year and three fortnight retreat with aspirations and prayers for meditative experiences and realizations to develop and progress.
